My first book, Police and Citizen Perceptions of Police Power, was published in 2004 (Edwin Mellen Press). My second book, The Use and Abuse of Police Power in America with ABC-CLIO/Greenwood/Praeger, was released in May of 2017. My third book with was published in 2021 with ABC-CLIO/Greenwood/Praeger. Publications/Research
Books Published:
Robertiello, G (August, 2021). Sexual Misconduct and Abuse: An Encyclopedia.
Ed. By Gina M. Robertiello. CA; ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Press. A review of over 150 chronologically arranged essays on major turning points/events in regard to the #MeToo Movement.
Robertiello, G (May, 2017). The Use and Abuse of Police Power in America: Historical Milestones
And Current Controversies. Ed. by Gina M. Robertiello. CA: ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Press. A review of 80 chronologically arranged essays on major turning points/events in the way that law enforcement carries out its public safety and crime fighting mandates. Goal is to create a resource that is accessible and user-friendly to lay audiences, while also providing meaningful depth of coverage and evenhanded and authoritative information on the evolution of police power and ways in which it is applied (and misapplied) today.
Robertiello, G. (2004). Police and Citizen Perceptions of Police Power. N.Y.: Edwin Mellen Press.
This publication is based on my doctoral dissertation. The goal was to develop a definitive picture of how police and citizens viewed the typical street encounter and determine how contextual variables such as demographic and situational characteristics were expected to influence the handling and outcomes of encounters. This was done via the collection of data about likely police behavior during street encounters in order to determine whether police and the public were similar in their beliefs (i.e., whether there were statistically significant difference between the groups). In conclusion, some factors influenced perceptions of the level of intrusiveness that would be used. In addition, more between-group than within-group differences were discovered.
