Biography:

I am Dr. Hetal Desai DNP, RN, FNP a full-time Assistant professor in the Graduate Nursing Department at Felician University.

I am a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a clinical doctorate in Nursing. My career in health care started by working as a medical assistant in 1999 and in 2000 I worked as a nursing assistant at a community hospital while going to nursing school for the registered nurse degree. Since that time, my career in the nursing arena has been varied caring for patients at all levels as a registered nurse in neurosurgery/oncology and trauma; thereafter a family nurse practitioner.

I have experience with a great number of clinical experiences in both acute setting as well as primary care setting for over 13 years. My nursing education started with an associate degree and a Diploma in nursing from Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing, Bachelor’s in Nursing from William Paterson University, Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner from Rutgers University and a Doctorate degree in Nursing from William Paterson University. The professional organization I am a member of are AANP, NJSNA, Sigma Theta Tau, NONPF, and ENA.

I am practicing as a family nurse practitioner for 13 years in varied areas such as Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, and Women’s Health OBGYN practice. As a family nurse practitioner who has been practicing in primary care practice, Emergency Department mainly in the fast track and geriatric emergency department for 11 years, and women’s health practice I am very comfortable with the APN role as a family nurse practitioner. I also have held a few faculty teachings both part-time and adjunct for 6 years within the accelerated/BSN program and a Master’s Nurse Practitioner program. My last publication was in May 2018 on Effectiveness of Transgender Care Content in a Nurse Practitioner Program.
