Secondary and Special Education: K-12 and Teacher of Students with Disabilities (MA)

Prepare for a fulfilling career as a teacher who cultivates a love of learning in students, preparing them for a lifelong educational journey.

Through this program, you will become prepared for initial teacher licensure in the State of New Jersey in two specialized areas: Secondary Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. You will become informed about methods for teaching in middle school and secondary education settings in content areas such as history, science, English, and math. Discover how to create a classroom setting and design a curriculum that builds upon and deepens the knowledge that older students have already accrued. You’ll also learn teaching philosophies according to local, state, and national trends, as well as how to utilize culturally responsive practices.

As soon as you begin the program, you’ll start observing students in the classroom, developing lesson plans, and eventually, teaching students. You’ll be placed in both general and special education settings, gaining a deep understanding and respect for the many ways in which different individuals learn.

You can complete this program within four years through either a traditional, cohort, or working adult model in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Education guidelines.

As you prepare for your teaching certification, you’ll earn your master’s degree, setting you up to earn more money as a teacher in New Jersey.
