Medical Laboratory Sciences
If you are interested in biology, chemistry, medicine and problem solving, then a degree in clinical laboratory science may provide the perfect career path for you. Clinical laboratory science professionals are vital “healthcare detectives” who perform lab tests to pinpoint the cause of disease through the examination and analysis of blood, tissue and other body fluids. It is estimated that 70% of all medical decisions made by physicians are based on this vital information provided by clinical laboratory scientists.
The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is awarded jointly with Rutgers University School of Health Professions (Rutgers-SHP). Students must complete specified degree requirements at Felician University before they can enter Rutgers-SHP for their professional coursework. The program offers professional coursework, with eligibility for national certification and state licensure, where applicable, in the following areas of study:
Medical Laboratory Science
- Medical laboratory scientists perform a wide variety of lab procedures that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and monitoring of disease. Major areas within this discipline include blood banking, clinical chemistry, hematology, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, and urinalysis.
- Curriculum consists of classroom instruction and student laboratory experiences integrated with clinical practice at affiliated clinical laboratories. Additional experiences are provided in laboratory management, education, research, instrumentation, and computers.
- The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is fully accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
