iPad Initiatives

The iPad Initiatives at Felician University allow students to use the iPad® to actively learn, create, and collaborate with classmates and faculty.

Students in programs participating in an iPad Initiative can use their iPad in every class with quick, mobile access to their courses and digital resources for success.  Students can opt to use apps to complete assignments, work efficiently, interact, and solve real-world challenges in preparation for career advancement.

The iPad is provided to students at the beginning of their program and can be kept by the student at graduation for no charge. The iPad model and accessories vary depending on the academic program and the timing of the cohort.

The iPad Initiatives at Felician University extend beyond the classroom to benefit the clients of our three anchor centers. These initiatives provide iPads for clients to access telehealth services delivered by Felician MACP student interns. With this technology, clients can conveniently connect with mental healthcare interns, receive counseling, and access our resources from their homes. These iPads facilitate efficient communication, collaboration, and access to vital services, ultimately enhancing the quality and accessibility of healthcare for individuals in need.

Additionally, we have developed the ASK Felician portal, which allows clients to access resources customized to their specific needs. This portal not only benefits clients of the anchor centers but also provides a platform for the centers to share resources with the clients being served by our MACP intern students.

Equipment Leasing Fund (ELF) Grant 2023: Expanding Equitable and Interdisciplinary Experiential Learning for a Highly Skilled Nursing Workforce

The project will provide new learning opportunities for all nursing students, including those focused on specific populations across the lifespan, primary and specialty care, and diverse simulated patients, and provide new simulated learning opportunities for non-nursing students. It will upgrade the simulation and debriefing audiovisual platform in the NRSC, establish resource equity between Felician’s nursing simulation labs, create a satellite anatomy and physiology lab in Obal Hall, expand mobile learning and testing resources in the NRSC and Obal Hall, and expand and update the simulated learning opportunities using the latest manikins, augmented/virtual reality learning, and high-fidelity and/or smart equipment for real-world, lifelike learning experiences.

The two main activities of the grant include:

  1. Enhance the nursing learning environments at Felician to make those environments more accessible and more responsive to students’ needs.
  2. Foster workforce readiness among Felician’s nursing students by providing a more diverse breadth of robust and realistic workforce experiences.

With this grant, iPads will be distributed to students in the advanced practice nursing programs (MSN Degree and Post Master’s Certificate Program) beginning with incoming students in Fall 2023. The iPad supports workforce readiness and connects advanced practice nursing students to a variety of apps to support clinical decision-making and safe, high-quality practice.

The University leads on the grant are Dr. Daria Waszak, Associate Dean in the School of Nursing and Prof. Mary Clare Smith, Director of the Barbara J. Toscano Nursing Resource and Simulation Center in Rutherford.
