Through this program, you will become prepared for initial teacher licensure in the State of New Jersey in two specialized areas: Secondary Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. You will become informed about methods for teaching in middle school and secondary education settings in content areas such as history, science, English, and math. Discover how to create a classroom setting and design a curriculum that builds upon and deepens the knowledge that older students have already accrued. You’ll also learn teaching philosophies according to local, state, and national trends, as well as how to utilize culturally responsive practices.
We offer four Bachelor of Arts in Education licensure preparation programs:
- Early Childhood & Special Education (P-3/Teacher of Students with Disabilities)
- Elementary & Special Education (K-6/Teacher of Students with Disabilities)
- Elementary & Special Education (K-6/Teacher of Students with Disabilities) with Middle School Endorsement (5-8)
- Secondary Education (K-12) and Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement
You will be able to expand your knowledge even more by choosing a co-major in one of the following areas:
Within your first year, you’ll begin observing students in the classroom, developing lesson plans, and eventually, teaching the students yourself. You’ll be placed in both general and special education settings, developing a compassionate and respectful understanding of the many ways that diverse individuals learn.
You can complete this program within four years through either a traditional, cohort, or working adult model in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Education guidelines.
