Women’s Track & Field Captures CACC Title

RUTHERFORD, NJ – Head coach Anthony Scannella and his crew are continuing to create history within the Felician University Athletics Department. The women’s track & field team are the 2023 CACC Champions. The CACC Championship took place on Sunday, May 7 and was hosted by Georgian Court University.

“As my first year as head coach for the entire program, I am so proud of these young women who sacrificed and worked so hard to win two championships this year,” Head Coach Scannella praised. “Our senior group set the foundation for this program, and I made a promise to them that they would be leaving a champion. That’s the mentality we went into this season with, and nothing was going to stop us. The team was determined to win both XC and Track and Field this year and the depth we had in all events this spring helped get over a hump to bring home the championship.”

After sitting in second place, Felician ended up finishing with 231 points, which was 68-points ahead of the second-place winner on Sunday.

The Golden Falcons secured six all-conference finishes by Bri Balderas (300m steeplechase), Talia Ferguson (high jump), Destiny Ellerbe (shotput), Ashley Linares (10k) and Chantoya Thomas (200m and 400m).

Scannella said, “My first year as a volunteer coach, we finished 6th and during the COVID year we finished 2nd. Talk about turning around a program… I want to thank my coaching staff Marc Peck, Cherie Powell, and John Brennan for making this year a successful one. I am very grateful to have them part of our Falcon family!”

The women’s squad has broken at least one Felician track and field record per meet during the 2023 season.
