Baseball Punches NCAA Ticket After Winning CACC Championship

RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Felician University baseball team became the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Champions after clinching a game two victory, 7-5, over Post University on Saturday, May 13, 2023. This marks the team’s first title since 2016.

Throughout the tournament, the Golden Falcons defeated Bloomfield College in a doubleheader win for the play-in round. They went on to secure two more wins over the S#1 Seed and S#2 Seed, earning them a championship appearance.

After being defeated in the first game against Post, game two served as a winner takes all situation. By the top half of the fifth, Felician put on three runs to hold a 7-4 advantage over the Eagles when Chris Fernandez (outfielder) slammed a 2 RBI double and stole home.

In the top of the ninth inning, Felician came out victorious on a looking strikeout and became the 2023 CACC Champions.

From the performances throughout the postseason, Wilfrido Valenzuela (left-handed pitcher) was named the 2023 CACC MVP with three appearances and Mike Caldon (right-handed pitcher), Anthony Lamar (catcher), Logan Waltz (right-handed pitcher and Fernandez were placed on the All-Tournament Team.

The win punched Felician’s ticket to the NCAA regional event.
