Felician University “Living Our Life Story” Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

RUTHERFORD, NJ – In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Felician University School of Business & Information Sciences (SOBIS) hosted “Living Our Life Story,” an event that highlights the personal and professional journeys of Hispanic leaders across the nation. Held in the Lenke Family Center for Innovation on Wednesday, October 11, two distinguished speakers from Univision TV, Bill Tipacti, Senior Director of Community Empowerment, and Damaris Diaz, Co-Host at Unimas shared their stories with students, faculty, and staff.

Moderated by the Dean, Dr. Marilú Marcillo, speakers shared their experiences and offered advice on pursuing passions, embracing opportunities, and building meaningful connections within the community, other organizations, and the university.

Bill Tipacti offered his advice to students who may feel uncertain about their future saying, “My advice for those who think they don’t have a path, just follow what you like. You have to find something that motivates you.” A plan that led him to a successful career at Univision reaching out and supporting communities.

In recounting her story, Damaris Diaz implored students to, “Never turn down an opportunity. Embrace them all. Do it to your 120% because even though it might not be what you’re looking for, those opportunities are going to set you up, and when your big opportunity comes, you’re going to take it and you’re going to fly with it.” The event concluded with a lively Q&A session.

The School of Business and Information Sciences (SOBIS) aims to educate highly skilled global leaders who will navigate the corporate world with integrity and proficiency. Hands-on learning and internship opportunities incorporate real-world learning, business simulations, and the ability to earn distinct certifications in specific disciplines through wide offerings in undergraduate and graduate programs.
