Felician University Statement on Online Accessibility

Felician University is dedicated to ensuring that its websites are accessible to all. As such, the university is committed to meeting or exceeding the Worldwide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1, Level AA Conformance (WCAG 2.1 Level AA, hereinafter referred to as the Standards). Felician University has invested a significant amount of resources to help ensure that its website is made easier to use and more accessible for people with disabilities.

As part of this commitment, Felician University will:

  1. ensure that new content posted to its websites will comply with the Standards;
  2. adopt a monthly schedule of review and remediation to identify and enhance areas of our websites in which accessibility and Standards compliance could be improved;
  3. provide third parties with a clear way to report accessibility issues and swiftly respond to any such reports;
  4. include accessibility and Standards compliance as a primary consideration in any procurement or upgrading of third-party systems; and
  5. launch a new website in Q3 2019 which will have improved accessibility features and compliance with Standards.
Ensuring standards compliance of new content

Staff responsible for uploading new content have been and will continued to be trained in how to test for and ensure compliance with Standards as well as common mistakes to avoid.

Review and remediation schedule

Felician University regularly reviews and continually works to improve the accessibility of felician.edu. Website pages are tested via  WAVE (Website Accessibility Evaluation Tool)

Accessibility issue reporting

Accessibility issues may be reported directly to Felician University by submitting their issue via www.felician.edu/webaccessibility. The expected response time for issues reported is two business days or less.

Third Party Systems

Parties responsible for procuring or maintaining contracts for third party systems have been and will continue to receive notification that the University’s policy is that any such system must include Standards compliance wherever applicable.

New Standards-Compliant Website

Currently scheduled for January 2020 launch, the new felician.edu website is being built with Standards-compliance as a primary consideration. Current sitewide accessibility features of the existing website include:

  • Skip to content navigational links
  • Screen reader compatibility
  • Responsiveness and device independency

In addition to existing features, the new website will include accessibility features at launch including:

  • Increase compliance with WCAG 2.1, ATAG 2.0, ADA,& Section 508 requirements
  • Web Accessibility for the Visually Impaired
  • Improving support for keyboard-only navigation
  • increase the contrast of contents on your site
  • increasing the font size
  • using a larger cursor
  • switching to a more readable font face
  • desaturating content (removing color from text and images)
