Biography

Dr. Alberto is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Ed. Leadership at Felician University. Her research interest is focused on School Leadership, Mentoring, Social Capital, Diversity and Inclusion, Cultural Intelligence, and Cultural Competency.

Dr. Alberto’s career began as a permanent elementary substitute teacher in the Bronx, progressing into several years of teaching Spanish in middle and high school. Her classroom experiences as a New York City Public School educator quickly demonstrated the critical need of inner-city students with disadvantaged families for help outside the classroom. Dr.Aberto turned to counseling in urban and suburban schools for eight years, helping a diversity of students navigate the difficult transitions from middle school to high school and then to college while addressing social and emotional difficulties and academic challenges.

Driven to serve her students as broadly as possible, Dr. Alberto be came the Director of Assessment Teaching and Learning for the Bergenfield Public School District in New Jersey, leading the assessments of a pool of approximately 3000 students while improving district-wide standardized testing and data analysis. Later, she became the Director of an Alternative high school for students at risk of not graduating from high school.

Dr. Alberto has presented her research related to equity, mentoring, and social capital in leadership for women and minorities at numerous state and national conferences. In addition, she actively volunteers her time as a Commissioner on the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools.
