Prepare to become a competent and caring practitioner within the education ministry of the Church. In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, our graduate Religious Education (MARE) program focuses on ministering in today’s world. Our degree and certificate programs seek to make the Word of God, revealed by Jesus, the Christ, expressed through the Catholic Church, dynamic and meaningful to people at every stage of their life.
We offer a 50% discount for qualified students in the MARE program who serve in church education ministry, such as parish and diocesan catechetical leaders, pastoral associates, clergy, vowed religious, religious education teachers (K-12), youth ministers, volunteer catechists, RCIA coordinators and other qualified persons. The discount applies to our graduate tuition rate.
Online coursework allows you the flexibility to fit your studies around your work schedule and lifestyle. Our program is taught entirely online by full-time Felician University faculty who hold doctoral degrees in relevant fields, possess the Mandatum, and are trained and certified in online teaching/learning.

Master of Arts in Religious Education (33 credits)
Intellectual formation is a cornerstone in developing a lay ecclesial minister’s understanding and appreciation of the Catholic faith. The role of leaders in ministry is to explore current developments and the issues raised by them. The Master of Arts in Religious Education Program prepares students to be well versed in the teachings of the Church, to realize the landscape of the contemporary Church, and to create life-giving catechetical/religious education experiences.
Post Master’s Certificate in Religious Education (24 credits)
This program is for students who already hold a graduate degree in theology or related field and are looking to expand their expertise in the area of catechesis/religious education.
Graduate Certificate in Religious Education (18 credits)
The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education provides new career and service opportunities to students. The graduate certificate offers deepened knowledge and explores practical methods for translating this knowledge into meaningful content in an education ministerial context. Catholic School Principal
“MARE definitely rates high for helping me do my job well. It gave me the confidence to try new formation programs with our students and their families – it helped me to feel confident that I really know what I am doing!”
Parish Director of Christian Formation
“What I had learned from resources, professors, and my fellow classmates during my years in the program has enabled me to teach with a different perspective and vision that, as the chair of the religion department, has enabled me to refine our program, be more critical of the text we assign, and be open in dialogue with fellow teachers as we respond to the great needs of evangelization in our world and catechesis in our classroom.”
