Virtual Interfaith Prayer Vigil Marks 9/11 Anniversary

Felician University marked the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a virtual interfaith prayer service.

In leading the online event, Andy Fellows, Director of Campus Ministry said, “We gather to pray, side by side together, inviting all people of faith, to remember those affected by this tragedy and to proclaim that love is stronger than hate.” The service included brief readings from different faith traditions including Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

In offering a personal reflection Felician University’s new ChapIain Fr. Tom Ruekert said, “It is most fitting that through this memorial service we do three things. First, remember, second, pray, and third, work for peace” adding “our call as human beings is to work for peace. We need to roll up our sleeves to help transform the world into one that strives for justice and peace.”

Those who gathered in solemnity, observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of all those lost on September 11, 2001 and to contemplate how to be an agent of positive change in the future.

Fellows concluded the service by sharing a quote of former President Barack Obama, “Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost; a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11″.
