Pascrell Announces $599K Federal Award for Felician University
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $599,993 federal education grant to Felician University. The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions grant will assist Felician in expanding educational opportunities for Hispanic students.
“During Hispanic Heritage Month and always, we must ensure that students of Hispanic descent have sufficient access to educational opportunities,” said Congressman Pascrell, a former teacher and longtime champion of federal education funding. “This federal award is a boon for those seeking to further their education, contribute to our economy, and achieve professional success. It underscores how the federal government can invest in future generations. Importantly, it will allow Felician University to continue its ever-important work on behalf of New Jersey students. As a former teacher, I know first-hand how vital education is and I will continue working to ensure that every student, regardless of background, receives the tools they need to succeed.”
Dr. Mildred Mihlon, Acting President of Felician University, added, “Hispanic Serving Institutions play a pivotal role in providing equity in education and workforce preparation. Felician embraces this responsibility, ensuring excellence in academics and career-based learning, bolstered by the global values of our Franciscan tradition. We are grateful to be able to continue our success through awards such as this, and the critical support of Congressman Pascrell, a champion of equity in educational outcomes.”
Congressman Pascrell has always fought to support students in New Jersey and throughout the United States. In 2021, he introduced and successfully passed legislation to make student debt forgiveness tax free. He also regularly delivers federal education grants for schools throughout New Jersey’s Ninth Congressional District.
