Men’s Soccer Crowned CACC Champions
RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician University Men’s Soccer headed down to Wilmington University to compete against Post University in the CACC Championships. In a matchup between two of the best teams in the CACC, Felician held onto their 1-0 lead bringing back the championship to Felician University for the first time since 2001. Here’s what transpired during today’s contest.
First Half – Early on, Felician had a couple of corner kicks by Manuel Otero within the first 3 minutes, but neither resulted in a goal. At the 19th minute, Felician scored the first goal of the match. Alex Ramos netted a goal, assisted by Nic Robinson, giving Felician a 1-0 lead. A few more shots came from Felician, including a header by Kohta Yamanashi and a shot by Hugo Rodriguez, but both were saved by the Post goalie. Defensively, Alvaro Martin Castedo made several key stops that helped slow Post from pushing offensively. Alex Ramos and Manuel Otero both made sure that Post couldn’t do anything on the outside and made sure the ball stayed in the middle of the field. Felician would go into the second half with the 1-0 lead.
Second Half – Felician continued to put pressure on Post with a shot by Massimo Girardi, which was blocked. A key opportunity came at the 46th minute when Felician had a corner kick by Manuel Otero, and Nic Robinson’s header shot went high. Post had a few chances, but Felician’s goalkeeper, Emanuele Moretti, kept them in check with numerous saves. The defensive backline kept breaking up all the opportunities that came their way. In the final minutes, Felician had multiple attempts, including shots from Tim Jaeger and Erick Vargas, but none found the back of the net, but led to Felician University bringing home the CACC Championship, winning 1-0.
Golden Falcons Player Of The Game – The Golden Falcons Player Of The Game goes to Alex Ramos, he scored the lone goal in today’s game while making multiple impressive stops.
The team will now prepare for the Division II NCAA Tournament where they will go up against Bloomsburg on Sunday, November 24, at 3:00 PM at Bloomsburg University.
