Keeping Up with Felician Alumnus Josh Delva ’13
Felician University Alumnus Josh Delva ’13 understands goals – making, setting, and exceeding them.
The first-generation Haitian American came to Felician on an athletic scholarship through the Golden Falcon men’s soccer program and quickly distinguished himself as team captain, an honor he held four times throughout his collegiate career. Delva is now maneuvering his way in the corporate world with the same sure-footedness that served him so well on the soccer pitch.
As Revenue Operations Manager for the software service company RightBound in northern Virginia, Delva is the liaison between sales, marketing, and engineering. “It’s a position that requires a bit of juggling between departments and a high level of communication to succeed,” Delva says. Although he is still early in his tenure in revenue operations, Delva already has a proven track record of exceeding targets and credits his professors and coaches at Felician with laying a solid groundwork for his ever-increasing business successes. “I learned you have to be versatile and set goals for both on and off the field and for when your playing days are over,” Delva recalled. “That is something I continue to take forward with me, so I am ready for whatever is next and always have an overall vision of where my path is going.”
Delva was a business administration and management major at Felician, where he minored in global peace & justice studies. He has climbed the career ladder quickly since graduation, rising from one position to the next in the short span of five years. His impressive early career growth and accomplishments include stints in revenue operations with PebblePost and eShopWorld.
Delva honed his leadership skills at Felician, where he served as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and as a research intern with the United Nations. Giving back as a volunteer was a big part of Delva’s life as a Golden Falcon and something he attributes to Felician, which is guided by the Felician Franciscan Core Values. As a Felician student, Delva volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to raise awareness about children’s diseases. He also served as a volunteer coach for The Outreach Program for Soccer, where he worked with children with autism. Delva cites professor Dr. Anthony Scardino who served as the advisor for all student-athletes, as a significant influence in his time at Felician, saying “Dr. Scardino was always in my corner, with an open-door policy.” Head men’s basketball coach Ivan Lewis was another important figure who helped Delva find his way as a college athlete.
Growing up the youngest of four children in South Orange, NJ, Delva has traveled extensively both domestically and internationally for both soccer tryouts and business. In addition to English, he speaks Haitian Creole, French, and conversational Spanish. Delva started mapso.io, a company he calls a passion product designed to provide opportunities in the Tech Space for young people in Maplewood and South Orange. “I want to create access for minorities in the tech industry because I have seen the power of what can happen when you have a diverse work base,” Delva said. “I want my company to bridge the gap between minorities and the tech space.”
The gift of exposure to international students at Felician helped him understand the importance of developing good listening skills, being well-rounded, and working effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
And that is a gift that continues to help Delva succeed not only in business but also in life.
