Women’s Volleyball Athletes Named 2021 Academic All-District

Recent Felician University graduate Katie Asbery of Mililani, HI and Felician rising junior Miquela Martinez of Santa Fe, NM have been selected for the 2021 Academic All-District® Women’s Volleyball Team, which is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for District 1 in the NCAA Division II.

The Academic All-District® Women’s Volleyball Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. As Academic All-District® selections, Asbery and Martinez will move on to represent Felician on the Division II CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.

Asbery and Martinez are the first two women’s volleyball players to capture CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors in the Golden Falcons’ 17-year history. A list of all Felician student-athletes to ever claim the award can be viewed here.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of nationwide matches played by NCAA women’s volleyball teams varied widely. Therefore, for 2020-21 only, CoSIDA decided to hand out its Academic All-District® Awards based on career statistics. Asbery, a 6-foot middle blocker, graduated among the top five on Felician’s all-time lists for attack percentage, blocks, and kills. She played on three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoff teams for the Golden Falcons. Asbery attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 as a biology major.

CoSIDA’s District 1 for NCAA Division II is comprised of all members of the CACC, East Coast Conference, and Northeast 10 Conference. The entire set of 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women’s Volleyball Teams can be accessed here.
