Felician University Takes Part in Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease
Members of the Felician University community put on their walking shoes Sunday, Oct. 17 and took part in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease. The 2-mile walk, part of the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, research, and support, took place in Overpeck Park located in Ridgefield Park.
About 70 walkers represented Felician University’s main team raising $2,650, while the Felician Men’s Soccer team raised nearly $1,100. Participants included Felician University students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Another 20 Felician students volunteered to help at the event.
According to Dr. Daria Waszak, Associate Dean of Felician University’s School of Nursing, participants selected a flower to represent their relationship to the cause – purple if they lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s, blue if they have Alzheimer’s, and orange if they support the cause and want to see a world without Alzheimer’s disease. “So many of us know someone or care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects the burden of this debilitating disease to double by 2060,” said Dr. Waszak who added, “It was a gorgeous day at Overpeck Park, and we showed our support by walking together side-by-side holding our flowers.”
Felician University was proud to join as a community to demonstrate its support of the rallying cry of the Alzheimer’s Association – Alzheimer’s Isn’t Stopping. Neither Are We!
