Felician University Becomes a Purple Heart University

Rutherford, NJ – April 25, 2019 – Felician University has always been dedicated to those who serve our country, providing services to military members, student veterans, and even their families. In recognition of this, Felician University will have the incredible honor of being named a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart on May 1, 2019.

Joseph Belardo, the New Jersey State Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, said the group is, “working to recognize colleges and universities, towns, and counties that exemplify service to veterans and show genuine concern. Veterans need guidance, understanding, support, and a friendly environment.”

Felician designed its Military Friendly Degree Programs with veterans and military members in mind. The University recognizes that veterans have varying needs that set them apart from the average student. Their life experience has given them unique skill sets, which is why Felician has fast-track programs that are eight-week sessions each, feature evening classes, and are filled with veterans and adult students. Veterans have the freedom to pursue their degrees while working during the daytime.

Felician also strives to enhance the overall experience of student veterans by offering peer tutoring services, studying assistance, free and private services at the University’s Counseling Center, and even spiritual guidance through the Campus Ministry program. Services and Programs such as the Military Grant, Yellow Ribbon Program, and Military Services Staff are offered for student veterans to benefit from.

The ceremony to recognize Felician as a Purple Heart University will be held on the quad at the Rutherford campus at 1:00 P.M. Father John O’Neil will bless the ceremony with an opening prayer, followed by a welcoming speech from President Anne M. Prisco. This ceremony will also feature a performance by the Felician Gospel Choir.
