Felician Falcons Soar Together: Building Unity and Community Spirit!

As part of a continued effort to support students in their personal and professional development, Felician University is providing mentoring opportunities thanks to a newly launched mentoring program entitled Felician Falcons Fly Together.

Felician engaged the software platform Mentor Collective to administer the program and provide an interactive, responsive, professional, mentoring experience. Mentor Collective gives students access to the research, services, and technology needed to build an inclusive culture of mentorship and facilitate the most robust connections between students and alumni.

The program connects students with alumni in the corporate sector and facilitates the connections between students and alumni. Mentors fill in information about their current, or former positions if retired, and students are matched with mentors either in their major or career path. All alumni and professional mentors are trained in the best practices of mentoring. The matching is scientific and strategic so both participants get a full experience. The program is reciprocal, ensuring students understand their responsibilities as mentees. Careful follow-up and assessment are other advantages of this high-impact mentorship program.

JoAnn Mitchell (’09), MBA, CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) of Mitchell Management and Consulting, says the online information provided to the mentors was extremely helpful and the program will be a positive-growth opportunity for students, mentors, and the University. “I am finding the mentor resources helpful and personally useful and am getting the benefit of my own growth by being a mentor.”

Felician mentor Penny Kamkourkong (’13) Assistant Manager at The Siegfried Group, is happy to be involved with the Felician Falcons Fly Together Program, saying she is grateful for the mentors who helped her throughout her career. “Mentors gave me opportunities and were my sounding board. Learning about the career journey of my mentor helped me find mine, and now I want to pass this forward.”

Marco Bermudez graduated in 2022 as a communication major with a concentration in video production and now works at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He appreciates that Felician will be there to help guide him wherever his career takes him. “Felician supported me as a student, and I am excited to know they will support me post-graduation. It will help make alumni feel they are still part of the Felician community.”

Other mentors already on board represent a wide range of industries, and include Robert Braun (’00), COO at University Radiology, Robert Francis (’09 & ’17), district sales leadership at PepsiCo, and Wanda Gozdz (’71), President, and owner of Golden Living, LLC. Gozdz was honored along with six other alumni at the 2022 Felician Alumni Awards on April 26 on the Rutherford Campus.
