Exploring Remote Learning: Felician Conducts Survey to Understand Student Experiences!

The COVID-19 Pandemic forced Felician to move to remote learning and telework almost two months ago.

In the best of all possible worlds, the computer skills of everyone working in the academic environment would be equal. In reality, there is a wide range, not only in technology skill, but in the comfort levels of users as well. Results of a survey identifying problems members of the University Community may be experiencing are set to be released soon.

Dr Robert Clougherty, Director of Felician’s Center for Innovation brought the survey idea to the Felician Cabinet which agreed, “it was important to hear the voice of the entire community.” To conduct the survey, Felician reached out to Educause, a non-profit association of technology, academic, industry, and campus leaders advancing higher education through the use of IT. “We wanted to learn what were the most pressing concerns, and we were surprised to find out that for some the problem was not that they did not have access to a device or computer, but that they had an issue getting reliable internet to make sure they have connectivity.

Dr. Clougherty says responding to the concerns and issues raised in the survey “will help us address any problems identified to overcome that remote divide and enhance the remote teaching and learning experience.”
