Excitement and Community Spirit: Felician Celebrates New Students on Move-In Days!

August 25 and 28 were Move-in Days at Felician University as students settled into residence halls and got acquainted with their roommates. The Office of Residence Life helped create a welcoming environment by holding a carnival on the Rutherford Campus featuring DJs, movie night, a magician, hypnotist, glow in the dark laser tag and a giant inflatable chess set.

Junior Dorian Fabre, a Resident Assistant, was on hand at Milton Court to help incoming freshmen feel at home in a new place. “My job is to let them know they are moving into an area where they are welcome and wanted, and I just help them in any way possible.”

Pathways to Healthcare major Shameeka Crawford-Nickens of Lacey Township was a little nervous when Move-in Day began, but says her jitters were quickly eased because, “everyone here is so helpful and made it so easy.” Her father Christopher Boyle agreed, describing Move-in Day as, “very exciting chaos,” adding, “I am excited because she worked hard to get here, and I am very happy for her to be starting this next step in her life.”

Shameeka’s roommate Gabriella Kaminski of North Arlington, NJ, is a Business Administration major who is minoring in Sports Exercise Science. She was excited to settle in and really see the campus adding, “People were so helpful in carrying things from my car and helping me every step along the way. It was wonderful.”

Identical twins Kayla and Mackenzie Fox are both on the Felician Women’s Lacrosse team. The sisters come from the west coast of Canada and are sharing a room in Milton Court. “I am super excited but also super nervous to be moving so far away from home,” said Mackenzie Fox.” The twins’ parents say they know their daughters are in safe hands at Felician but admit they will be counting down the days until they come home for Christmas break.

Resident Assistant, Jada Carroll, encouraged new students to step out of their comfort zone and be open to new experiences, starting from the day they move into their new rooms at Felician saying, “You will meet new people, hear new accents, and see new perspectives.”
