Felician Alums Hear About Manufacturing Jobs Outlook: Exploring Career Opportunities!
Felician University along with Alumni & Friends continued its outreach to alumni on September 17 with its third virtual networking event on a business theme.
Felician Alumna JoAnn Mitchell gave the online keynote for the program Career Opportunities in Manufacturing. Mitchell is the senior Marketing Director for Sandvik Coromant, a global company, founded in Sweden with US headquarters in NJ since 1955, that supplies cutting tools and solutions to the metal cutting industry.
Mitchell began her presentation with a short and straightforward message. “Everything you touch was touched by manufacturing first. Everything. No matter what it is.” To reinforce her point, Mitchell showed a brief video highlighting what modern manufacturing looks like showing everything from smoke alarms, wind energy, aerospace, pharmaceutical, and engineering products. She told those who participated in the event that there are career opportunities in manufacturing even for individuals with no background in the field. “Just like every other company, manufacturing companies need everybody from accounting, finance, logistics, and legal. In manufacturing we have jobs for everyone.” Mitchell says that includes marketing, human resources, sales, and technical support depending on the product. Sandvik Coromant itself employs some 7,900 people in more than 150 countries worldwide.
Mitchell got her MBA from Felician University and has more than fifteen years teaching experience for a nationally recognized education company. She was honored by the Manufacturing Institute in 2016 and now speaks to student and industry audiences about Science Technology, Engineering, and Math careers, economics, project management, manufacturing, technology and innovation.
Mitchell emphasized that in job searching and career building, “it is important to ask what can I do for the company, not what can they do for me.” Mitchell told the alumni that she has a “soft spot in her heart for alums” and encouraged Felician Falcons interested in learning more about job opportunities in manufacturing to email her at joann.mitchell@sandvik.com.
