Dr. Eliza Leszczynski Becomes Full-Time Assistant Math Professor
Dr. Eliza Leszczynski Appointed as Full-Time Assistant Math Professor at Felician University
For Felician University Mathematics Professor, Dr. Eliza Leszczynski, it is important to feel like she belongs, and is a part of a community. That’s why for Dr. Leszczynski, working at Felician University feels like a perfect fit. “I am so happy at Felician, because I love this University’s focus on high quality teaching that works to reach every student— seeing every student for who they are, and helping them learn, and eventually reach whatever goals they have for themselves.”
Dr. Leszczynski was born in Poland, and always loved math, but didn’t think she was going to be a mathematics teacher until she came to the US at age 16, and realized, “Mathematics was a language I could speak.” The knowledge that she could communicate with numbers was empowering for her. She received two years of ESL training at Garfield High School and then earned an Ed.D from Montclair State University, and now loves working with students, some who, she says, remind her of herself. “I never regretted one day in my entire life pursuing mathematics as the discipline of my studies. I love working with students and helping them in any way I can to succeed, because I want them to succeed, and I believe they can, every single one of them, no exception.”
Before coming to Felician University, she worked in higher education teaching future elementary and middle school math teachers. At Felician, Dr. Leszczynski has the freedom and opportunity to write and do research in mathematics education, and appreciates the fact that teaching is such a big component of her everyday tasks. Dr. Leszczynski says she is super excited about being invited to join the Felician Honors Program Advisory Board, where she can help with the Honors Student Club.
Dr. Leszczynski acknowledges there will be challenges in education in the future, but when asked what she’s looking forward to at Felician University, she didn’t hesitate to answer, saying, “many things,” adding, “selfishly, I am looking to grow with my students. I don’t think we ever stop learning, so as a professional, as an instructor, as a teacher, I want to keep learning how best to help my students learn. I am excited about that, because as difficult as these past two years have been for us so much came out of those two years that helped us grow in our understanding of teaching and learning.”
