Dr. Anthony Scardino Publishes in “Business Technology Through Advancement”

RUTHERFORD, NJ – Following the mass digitization of the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic, professional structures and leadership continue to evolve in unprecedented ways. For a post-pandemic generation, online leadership is a crucial professional issue.

At Felician University, Dr. Anthony J. Scardino, Associate Dean and Professor, is at the forefront of understanding the evolution of the virtual workforce and promoting positive virtual leadership structures. His research findings were recently published in the academic book “Business Technology Through Advancement, Volume II,” from Springer Nature Press.

With a PhD in Leadership and Change, Dr. Scardino focuses his research on the ways in which leadership is impacted by a virtual age and exacerbated by a pandemic.

“In virtual workspaces, leadership has to be more clearly defined than ever,” said Dr. Scardino. “Our chapter focus was to be a real agent of change, anticipating what’s coming next for the young professional world.”

Published in 2022, “Business Technology Through Advancement, Volume II” is the second installment of a two-part educational book series exploring the links between technology, sustainability, and innovation.

Dr. Scardino, along with two collaborators, contributed the chapter “The Changing Technology Use and its Impact on Leadership and Hierarchy Structure in the Virtual Workplace.” The chapter reflects its authors’ findings on the effects of mass professional transitions to virtual workspaces, remote team performance, and flat organizational structure. Additionally, through systematic breakdown of scientific literature and studies, Dr. Scardino examines both the positive and negative impacts of a global move away from on-site corporate spaces.

Co-authoring the chapter are Drs. Rosemary Muirungi and Arkadiusz Mironko. Years prior to their collaboration, Mironko, a Felician alumni, was a student of Dr. Scardino’s in Felician’s adult accelerated business program. Together, the three university professors completed their research-based chapter and were published in 2022.

Dr. Anthony J. Scardino is an Associate Dean of Graduate and PLA Programs as well as an Associate Professor in the School of Business & Information Sciences at Felician University. He has previously served Felician University as interim dean, associate dean, director of accelerated degree programs, and more. He also serves on the Franciscan Taskforce and as a student advisor.
