Construction Continues on Rutherford Campus
Construction Progresses on Felician University’s Rutherford Campus
What you’re going to see is a complete renovation of the parking lot and I think renovation understates it, it’s really a reconstruction.” Tom Truchan, CFO of Felician University, is overseeing the large construction project now under way on the Rutherford campus. Truchan says the project, known on campus as the WaRC or Wellness and Recreation Center is really three projects, “we have construction of The Wellness Center, we have the upgrade of the existing gymnasium, and we also have the Montross Avenue parking lot.
Those projects not only allow for better athletic events, but it allows for a better experience for the students who are on campus, not just the students who live there, but the people who are commuter students will also get the benefit of that.” The Montross Avenue parking lot is slated to be completed first, most likely by early August and Truchan believes that students and area residents will be pleased with the improvements. “When we received approval, one of the items was not only to improve the lighting so that residents wouldn’t be bothered, but there was a water runoff issue. So we are redoing the way water will run off the parking lot.
You’ll see much more landscaping, it’s going to be aesthetically pleasing. It’s going to be a good-looking parking lot. I think it will actually improve the look of the campus.” Truchan reports that the redesign of the lot will provide more parking spaces than the current lot, which may mean there will be less student and faculty cars parked on the street.
