Aaliyah is a nursing student and served as vice president of the Student Nurses’ Association. Read on to learn more about her Felician experience in this exclusive Q&A.
How has Felician helped you succeed?
Felician has helped me succeed in so many ways but mainly to grow as a student-leader and as a nurse. The nursing program provides a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that covers essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills one needs to be a successful nurse. Felician has also offered me tremendous help financially with scholarships and financial aid payment plans, which help students manage the cost of their education, making it more accessible and affordable. During my time at Felician I was able to enhance my leadership skills by being a E-Board member of the Student Nurses’ Association two years in a row holding the position of a Secretary in 2022-2023 and now as the Vice President from 2023-2024. During my time with this association, I was able to represent Felician University at the state level, donate to shelters helping new moms and victims of domestic violence, and provide service to the university by recruiting potential incoming students at open-houses. Nevertheless, without the opportunities offered at Felician I will not feel as confident as I am now, as a senior, going into my first new graduate nursing job.
What was your favorite part of your Felician experience?
My favorite part about my Felician experience would be the relationships I built with my professors. During my time at Felician, I was able to connect with each and every single one of my professors due to the small class sizes, which allows the professors to actually know you for who you are rather than just a student in their class. As known nursing school is challenging to say the least, so being able to have such a supportive and determined staff allowed me to be where I am today. Without my professors, I can honestly say nursing school would not be doable, as they believed in me at all times more than I believed in myself. Felician School of Nursing staff genuinely cares about their students as they want to see each and every single one of us succeed; their passion and determination to the nursing profession and commitment to education makes them an invaluable asset to Felician.
Would you recommend Felician to others? If so, why?
Yes, I will most definitely recommend Felician to others due to all the accommodations it offers students to facilitate their needs. Felician offers a numerous amount of resources such as financial assistance, tutoring, on-campus jobs, significant amount of clinical hours to enhance skills, extensive technological simulations to enhance education for nursing students, and room for growth as a student-leader. One of my favorite things to mention to incoming freshmen is the fact that the School of Nursing offers tutoring sessions administered by graduate assistants who are actively in the nursing Master’s program and understand the content from a student point-of-view. Additionally, aside from the tutoring services offered at Felician, which are in person, the tutoring with the graduate assistants are held via zoom at a later time or even during the weekends accommodating the times students are able to attend.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation is to begin studying for my NCLEX and take it by mid-summer. After passing my NCLEX, I plan on going on vacation to celebrate my accomplishment and begin my dream job as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital in August. I am happy to say that I loved my experience so much at Felician that I am planning to return within a year to pursue my Master’s Degree and possibly teach as a Professor or Adjunct Clinical Instructor in the future.
Do you feel Felician helped prepare you for a successful career?
Yes, I do feel like Felician helped me prepare for a successful career as it is known to be one of the top nursing schools in the state of New Jersey. In fact, their NCLEX first try passing rate in 2023 was 93.75%, which is really good considering that the NCLEX just changed their nursing-style questions during this time to be a lot more challenging than it ever was before. The nursing classes at Felician can be very challenging and strict, but the end result is so worth it as it not only prepares you for your nursing profession, but most importantly to pass the NCLEX in the first try. Lastly, as Felician nursing students we are privileged to be able to have a clinical placement each and every single one of the semesters starting our Junior year allowing us to enhance our clinical skills and patient interaction.

As a nursing student during our senior year in the spring semester we are required to complete a 12 hour clinical weekly and we are able to choose three prospective employer hospitals and units we would like to work in post-graduation. During this time, we are able to network with the nursing manager and nursing educator at this hospital, increasing the chances of getting a job at this unit or hospital after our senior residency completion. Oftentimes, 9 times out of 10 students are hired and guaranteed a job before even graduating, which is a huge accomplishment.
