Assessing Early Receptive Vocabulary Development
A study is underway at Felician University to assess whether infants who have older siblings with ASD may develop vocabulary in the same manner as other children.
About the Study
- This study will systematically periodically assess the children’s receptive vocabulary by presenting pairs of pictures and providing the name of one of the objects (e.g., “Apple”).
- We will track the children eye gaze by using a well established remote eye-tracking program known as Tobii-Eye Tracking system. During the assessment, you will remain with your child. We will be completing communication and developmental inventories and assessments.
- Similar visits will occur every six months until you child is 24 months of age. Each visit will last approximately 90 minutes. This study will take place at Felician University.
Participant Eligibility
- Younger siblings of children with ASD who are approximately 6 to 12 months of age.
- Children without ASD who are approximately 6 to 12 months of age.
- Children with ASD between 2 to 5 years of age as well as a group of same age children without ASD.
