Admission Requirements
In addition to a completed admissions application, the following are required:
- Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate program
- Official transcripts of past collegiate work including post-baccalaureate work
- 9 credits in psychology coursework or its equivalent (recommended)
- Résumé
- Personal statement
- Two letters of recommendation
Degree Requirements
The master’s degree consists of 60 credits and conforms to the licensing expectations of the New Jersey Professional Counselor Licensing Law. For the license as a professional counselor, you need to complete coursework in the following areas:
- Counseling theory and practice
- The helping relationship
- Human growth and development and maladaptive behaviors
- Lifestyle and career development
- Group dynamics, processes, counseling and consulting, and appraisal of individuals
- Social and cultural foundations
- Research and evaluations
- The counseling profession (including ethics)
Before earning your master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, you must complete the required 60 credits, including clinical placements, and maintain a professional/clinical portfolio. Applicants from out of state should check with their state licensing board and requirements prior to starting the program at Felician.
Required Courses
Students are required to complete the 60-credit MACP program, including the clinical placements (Practicum, Internship I, Internship II), prior to becoming eligible to take the National Counselor Exam (NCE) and beginning their post-master’s training.
