Dr. David Steinman is a clinical psychologist with a focus on substance abuse and other addictions and an Assistant Professor in the Psy.D. in Counseling Psychology Program at Felician University. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, with a BTL and ordination from Ner Israel Rabbinical College and a doctorate from Adelphi University, Derner Institute. He is also a New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, emeritus. Dr. Steinman has served as a full-time assistant professor at Touro College for more than thirty years. In addition, Dr. Steinman has taught courses in various CASAC training programs. As an adjunct, he taught undergraduate courses in psychology and education at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Brooklyn College and New York City Technical College. He has taught in the graduate programs in Mental Health Counseling at Adelphi University and Brooklyn College as well as graduate and postgraduate courses in social work at Adelphi University and Long Island University. Dr. Steinman has supervised master’s and doctoral students in social work and clinical psychology from several programs. He was a rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva Teferis Bochorim. Dr. Steinman has taught in various Jewish studies programs, including at Lincoln Square Synagogue. Dr. Steinman has been active in designing and directing substance abuse programs, including the Coney Island Hospital Drug Treatment Program, Odyssey House, Lumina and the Yatzkan Institute, a program for Orthodox Jewish teens who abused substances. He has also served on the Rabbinical Board of JACS (Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependent Persons and Significant Others.) He has written and presented widely on issues in psychology and addiction, including the Eastern Psychological Association Convention, the National Association of Social Workers Convention and the United Nations. Dr. Steinman has also been a member of the Committee for Professional Assistance for New York State.
Dr. Steinman has been included in International Who’s Who, Who’s Who in Science and Technology, and Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
