2nd Annual Veterans Day Ruck March

RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Felician University Veterans Advisory Council proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Veterans Day Ruck March on Friday, November 11, 2022.  Veterans, students, faculty, and staff accompanied President Jim Crawford, a retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral, in making the four-mile trek from the Lodi campus to the Rutherford campus.

This year, Soldiers from northern New Jersey under the Command of Captain Christopher Delgado of the U.S. Army Newark Recruiting Company Mid-Atlantic Battalion, joined the ruck wearing full gear.  Keynote speakers at the ceremony following the march included Rutherford Police Chief John Russo and retired Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire.

The Ruck March was started by the Veterans Advisory Council as a way to uniquely commemorate Veterans Day and support veteran students as they work toward their degree.  Sponsors of the march included Inserra Supermarkets, Positive Electric Company, New York Life, Wallington PBA, All Shore Screen Printing, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Leo McGuire, Phil DeNicola, and the Alfred M. Fiume Foundation. All proceeds go to the Felician University Veteran Students Fund.

Jason Fermin ’17, a Marine and Army veteran and chair of the Veterans Advisory Council remarked, “My experience at Felician was outstanding and positively affected my journey in work and life.  We are grateful to everyone here today as well as all those who supported this effort so that more veterans can achieve a better station in life through education.  There is no better thank you for a veteran.”  Mr. Fermin is a detective with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
