SOBIS Dean Receives 2022 Mujeres Brillantes Award
RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician University is proud to announce that Dr. Marilú Marcillo, Dean of the School of Business & Information Sciences, is the recipient of a 2022 Mujeres Brillantes Award sponsored by Prospanica New Jersey and Prudential. The award ceremony took place on Thursday, November 10, in Kiyo Hall located in the Prudential Tower Building in Newark.
Prospanica New Jersey advocates for Hispanic business professionals through education, career advancement, and leadership. The Mujeres Brillantes Awards honor Latina women who have used their acumen, professional achievements, power, and personal tenacity to advance other women, help their community, and open doors for others.
Dr. Marcillo is a champion for her students in the School of Business & Information Sciences. A first-generation college graduate from an immigrant family herself, she has brought a wealth of academic and life experience to her position from both her corporate career as a young Latina to her years in academia. Dr. Marcillo remarked, “As someone who has had the opportunity to accomplish my educational and professional goals, I recognize how important it is to help others accomplish their goals. As an educator and now as a dean it is my privilege and goal to enable the success of others.”
Under Dr. Marcillo’s leadership, Felician University is launching a cutting-edge Finance program at the undergraduate level and is pursuing new concentrations in Labor Relation in Professional Sports, Financial Education, and Analytics and Informatics. At the postgraduate level, Dr. Marcillo is directing a focus on Healthcare Management, Healthcare Informatics, and Risk Management to keep Felician graduates keenly competitive with changes in the business landscape. All programs will require experiential learning components through internships, mentorships, and job opportunities, which are critical to preparing first-gen and students of color for real-world workforce environments.
