New Associate Dean of Humanities is Named
Dr. Lavina Sequeira has been named an Associate Dean of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences. “I am excited to work alongside extremely talented peers as I take on this academic leadership role,” said Dr. Sequeira.
Starting at Felician University as an adjunct instructor in Philosophy in 2017, Dr. Sequeira was subsequently asked to join the faculty as a half-time and then full time Assistant Professor.
In 2020, Dr. Sequeira, along with Dr. Charity Dacey, Associate Dean of Felician’s School of Education, published research in the professional journal, Education Frontiers. The COVID-19 Diaries: Identity, Teaching, and Learning at a Crossroads, examined ways educators could help students overcome challenges to their learning by looking at factors influencing them beyond the main issue of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Sequeira acknowledges that, as with other departments, there are some challenges that the Humanities Department faces, specifically, “bridging the divide between what is taught in the classroom and the realities of our global world.” The new Dean says she is excited to be a part of various program and discipline-specific initiatives to meet these challenges.
As Director of the Honors Program at Felician University, Dr. Sequeira helps students explore subjects in greater depth as they engage in critical reading, writing, laboratory experiences, and even conduct scholarly research with faculty guidance. In addition to creating and teaching online Philosophy courses and collaborating with colleagues on papers and presentations, Dr. Sequeira assists in all Arts and Sciences, as well as Felician University wide initiatives.
The Department of Humanities remains committed to student success and Dr. Sequeira says “new interdisciplinary initiatives will ensure that our students are empowered and prepared to meet the challenges of our global world.”
Dr. Lavina Sequeira will continue to enrich the Felician community with her dedication, energy, and unflagging enthusiasm in her new role as Associate Dean of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences.
