A Message From President Dr. Anne Prisco
Dear Felician Community,
This past Tuesday, there was a shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. We are heartbroken over this tragedy and our prayers go out to the families and entire UNC community.
As President of Felician University, I worry about our students every day. We have undertaken strong security procedures to prevent and respond quickly to emergencies, but school shootings are a new and recurring nightmare. In many ways, they have changed university life forever.
This is a complicated challenge with no easy solutions, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respond. We can study why, we can work diligently to make our schools as physically and emotionally safe as possible, and we can enact common sense gun control legislation.
At Felician, our first priority is our students. Our second is their future. We are proud to be ranked the #1 safest college campus in New Jersey by niche.com. We remain committed to maintaining a safe and secure campus. We are continually reviewing our procedures and safeguards and are very grateful to our local police departments and emergency services for their partnership in this effort. Our campus community is connected to an e-based, mass notification network that empowers us to send instant alerts to faculty, staff, and students.
Going forward, we should not be driven by fear, but we can be more vigilant, and we can increase our awareness of those who may be troubled around us and act to get them the help they may need. So importantly, we are a campus community based on Franciscan values that strengthen and empower us as we continue to grow together, support each other, and work to create a better world beyond our gates.
In Peace and Gratitude,
Anne M. Prisco, Ph.D.
