Maintenance and Repairs
If you have a maintenance problem, you must fill out a Work Order, located in the Office of Residence Life in the Student Center building. Upon completion of the form, you will receive a copy for your records. Requests will then be forwarded to the Maintenance Office. Be as specific as possible. Residents of the same room/suite should not submit duplicate reports of the same problem. Repairs are handled as soon as possible. However, any problems occurring on the weekend/holiday must wait until at least the next working day to be dealt with (unless the problem is an emergency, for example, burst pipe, flood, etc.) If the repair has not been made within three (3) business days, fill out a second work order and be sure to note second request to it.
Repairs that you or your room/suitemates request grant the maintenance staff the authorization to enter your room/suite. Additionally, routine repairs not reported by you are sometimes necessary. Unless the repairs are urgent, a repair person will be scheduled to enter your room/suite during regular working hours.
First-year students may not have cars on campus unless they have off campus employment. A letter written on your employer's stationary should be sent to the Residence Life Office. If you have an extenuating circumstance, you must have special approval from the Campus Administrator. All residential student cars must be registered with The Office of Residence Life. Residential Parking decals will be issued which must be displayed in the vehicle at all times. Students with registered cars may park in lots C, D or Milton Court only. Cars parked in Lot A or any other unauthorized areas, will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense. You must also obtain a parking decal from SGO (located in Lodi) to park in the Lodi parking area.
Each student room on campus is equipped with voice, data and video communication lines. You receive limited access to area code 201, and 1-800 capability to use phone cards for long distance calling, as well as on-line computer access as part of the telecommunications package. This means that you may access the College's network for access to email and other services, provided that your computer is equipped with an Ethernet card.
In the event of an emergency, please call Security (x3561) immediately. Students can also call room to room or campus to campus by dialing the four digit extension number.
The Residence Life staff is responsible for handling incoming mail. When mail is received, it is placed in assigned mailboxes in Elliott Terrace (you will receive a mailbox key) and Milton Court (numerical code) based upon your room assignment. If a package is received, you will be alerted to pick up your package in the Residence Life Office. Students may receive mail by utilizing the following address:

Pets are NOT permitted in the residence halls. Experience has shown that pets cause damage to furniture and carpet, create odors, aggravate allergies, and sometimes constitute serious health and sanitary problems. In the event that a live animal is found in possession of a resident(s), the resident(s) will be given 24 hours to remove the animal from the premises, and a sanction will be imposed as deemed appropriate. Should the same or any other live animals be found in possession of the resident(s) on a second occasion, the minimum sanction will be jeopardy of eviction. No pet equipment, food or supplies may be brought into the residence halls.
For the safety of residents and their belongings, locking your suite and room door is extremely important. Doors should be locked whenever the room is not occupied, as well as at night when you’re asleep. It is your responsibility to carry your keys with you at all times. Do not lend your keys to others. Doing so is in direct violation of the key policy. If keys are lost or stolen, you must immediately contact the Office of Residence Life to have a lock change performed. You will be charged for the cost of the lock and keys. This cost ranges from $100.00 to $250.00 depending on how many replacement keys are needed.
If you find yourself locked out please contact the Resident Assistant on Duty or Security.
Room changes are not permitted during the first two weeks of a semester. If after that time a change is necessary, a request form must be filled out and the decision made by the Associate Director of Residence Life. Any charge, changes in rates, etc., will be cleared prior to approving the room switch. No room changes may take place without this specific authorization.
In the event that a large number of vacancies occur in any residence unit during the year, the College reserves the right to consolidate students in order to close down a section of the unit.
Residence Hall Room Rates
Residence hall rates are subject to change by the action of the Board of Regents; such changes take effect at once and apply to students already enrolled. The College also reserves the right to revoke the agreement at any time for cause.
Student Placement Fee
Each resident is required to submit a $200 Placement Fee for the academic year. This deposit is applied directly to the individual student’s account. Once the deposit is submitted, if a student decides not to attend Felician or no longer stay in residence, the deposit is non refundable.
As determined by the Board of Regents of Felician College, a student withdrawing from the College must file the appropriate forms. The date indicated on the official withdrawal form will be the withdrawal date. Tuition, fees and balance of housing rates are refundable according to the refund schedule established in the student handbook. Balance of housing fees is refundable on a prorated basis. The board charge is refundable on a prorated basis as well. Full weeks will be used to prorate. No refund of room or board charges is made for weekend absences or meals missed.
When students withdraw from the residence hall but remain in school, a room refund is not granted.
The College reserves the right to apply a refund to outstanding financial obligations. Also federal regulations require that, in some cases, refunds for students on federal financial aid be applied against awarded financial aid or loans.
Application fees, admission fees, placement fees and orientation fees are non-refundable.
All residents must have their guests signed in and out with security at all times during visitation hours. A valid student ID or Driver's License must be left with security. Residents must be with their guests at all times. You are responsible for the actions of your guests. If a guest is found in the residence halls without their host they will be escorted from campus and not permitted to return. The hosts’ guest privileges will be revoked at the discretion of an administrator.
Guest visitation hours are as follows:
Sunday-Thursday: 8:00 AM-1:00 AM
Friday-Saturday: 8:00 AM-2:00 AM
Overnight Guest Policy
If you wish to have a same sex guest stay overnight in the residence halls, you must fill out an overnight guest form no later than 24 hours prior to your guest's arrival. If guest is arriving over the weekend form must be completed prior to noon on Friday. These forms are located in The Office of Residence Life. You must have your roommate and suitemates sign the form before approval is granted. A Residence Life Administrator must then sign the form, granting approval.
Guest visitation hours are as follows:
There will be no guests allowed over break periods.
You may only have 2 guests at a time per residence hall room.
The maximum amount of time a guest is allowed to stay in the halls is three (3) consecutive nights within a 7 day period. Not to exceed having guests for more than 6 days per month.
An individual may not stay more than 6 nights during a 1 month period. If extenuating circumstances occur this can be petitioned to the Director of Residence Life.
Your guest must leave a valid form of identification with security and sign in upon arrival.
Your overnight guest pass form must be carried by your guest at all times.
Remember, you are responsible for your guest while he/she is staying. If a guest is found in the residence halls without their host they will be escorted from campus and not permitted to return. The hosts’ guest privileges will be revoked at the discretion of an administrator.
To ensure an environment conducive to sleep and study, you are responsible for monitoring your personal noise level in and around the halls. Noise is considered a problem when it is deemed disruptive to others. Quiet hours are in effect:
Sunday-Thursday: 10:00 PM-8:00 AM
Friday-Saturday: 12:00 AM-8:00 AM
Courtesy hours are in effect 24 hours a day. All noise must be kept to a level that is respectful to other residents in the building. If you are found in violation of the noise policy, you will receive a written warning. If it becomes a repeat offense, sanctioning will occur. Please remember that during exam periods, 24 hour quiet hours are in effect the entire span of exams. Signs will be posted to alert you to the dates and times when 24 hour quiet hours commence.
Felician College is a smoke free environment. Smoking is prohibited in any campus facility. Smoking is also prohibited with 20 feet of any building and must take place away from common walkways. A non-smoker’s right takes precedence anywhere on the Felician College campus.
Policies, Guidelines and Disciplinary Sanctioning
Guidelines are established, in accordance with State and Federal laws, to provide a safe and harmonious community for you and others to live. Students are expected to follow the guidelines outlined in The Felician College Student Handbook, as well as the policies and regulations identified within the Residence Life Guidebook. You are expected to familiarize yourself with these guidelines and make responsible choices. In a community such as this, it is important to consider the effect your choices and behaviors have on others around you. Understand that you will be held responsible for being present during a policy violation. You will also be held accountable for your guests’ behaviors and policy violations occurring in your room or the common areas of your suite. Keep in mind that once you receive this guidebook, you are responsible for the entire content, especially all policies, procedures and regulations. Policies and Guidelines
The maintenance of harmonious community standards requires that behavior which interferes with or threatens the welfare of others or the College community be prevented. To list all those acts which constitute unacceptable conduct is impossible. The behaviors listed below constitute violations for which maximum allowable sanctions of suspension or dismissal from Felician College may be warranted. While neither action would necessarily follow automatically, they may be considered and imposed when appropriate to the case and to Felician College’s interests as an educational institution.
- Theft or possession of stolen property, malicious destruction, damage, or misuse of college property or of private property.
- Endangering life or bodily welfare or physically abusing another person.
- Fraud, intentional misrepresentation, forgery or falsifying college documents, records, or identification cards.
- Unlawful distribution or possession of drugs, narcotics, or controlled dangerous substances.
- Illegal use of drugs, narcotics, or controlled dangerous substances.
- Lewd, indecent or disorderly conduct.
- Disorderly conduct resulting from drunkenness.
- Unlawful or improper possession, distribution, or use of items such as fireworks, fire arms, explosive devices, darts, knives, bows, arrows, BB or pellet guns, whips, or other dangerous weapons.
- Gambling on the Felician College campuses as defined by state and municipal rulings as being illegal.
- Failing to cooperate with staff members working in the line of duty.
- Insubordination to a staff member.
- Repeated behavior which materially and substantially interferes with the operation of the College or members of the College community, which have previously been brought to the attention of the Office of Residence Life.
- Falsely reporting a fire, activating emergency warning equipment, or intentionally communicating false information regarding the existence of explosives on College property.
- Entering or using facilities or property of another person or the College without consent or authorization.
- Failing to comply with the lawful directions of a College official acting in the performance of his/her duties and authority.
- For safety reasons, students may not be on the roofs, on window sills or on window ledges at any time. Students may not place their property (i.e. stereos, beverage bottles, etc.) in their windows or on window sills at any time.
- Adverse behavior directed at an individual because of race, color, or any of the generic categories defined in the affirmative action statement.
- All forms of sexual assault and sexual harassment are prohibited and subject to action by civil authorities.
- Verbal abuse to any member of the campus community.
- Violation of College Alcohol Policy.
Felician College Alcohol Policy
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the Felician College campus regardless of age. The Rutherford Campus is considered a “Dry” campus. The following are prohibited:
- Felician College students or guests of Felician College students, regardless of age, possessing, consuming or distributing alcoholic beverages on the Felician College campus.
- Possession of full, partially full, or empty containers pertaining to alcoholic beverage containers, including but not limited to, beer cans (can chandeliers, can pyramids, etc.), empty kegs, liquor, wine and champagne bottles (regardless of cost, aesthetic or sentimental value).
- Being present on campus intoxicated, regardless of age or location of consumption.
- Being in the presence of open alcohol regardless of age or individual consumption.
Providing large quantities of alcohol to others puts the community and its members at risk. For this reason, possession of kegs or beer containers over thirty-two ounces are considered serious policy violations. Hosting an event that violates the alcohol policy is considered a serious violation and will minimally result in separation from Housing. As per the Alcohol Policy, staff has the right to inspect suspicious packages and coverings transported into the residence halls. Residence Life staff members also have the right to search a College issued hot/cold unit if there is any suspicion of an illegal substance inside.
If a student is found in violation of the above policies, disciplinary sanctions will be imposed. Disciplinary sanctions are assigned in accordance with the type of unacceptable behavior in which a student engaged, as well as that student’s level of responsibility for the incident. The descriptions provided below are intended to inform students of the possible consequences of failing to comply with the expectations of Felician College students. Factors, such as the seriousness of the incident and the student’s past disciplinary history will be taken into account in determining the appropriate disciplinary sanctions. In addition, failure to comply with any disciplinary sanction may result in additional disciplinary sanctions. All sanctioning will be decided by the Judicial Hearing Officer (Director of Residence Life) presiding over the case. In the event of an appeal, the College Judicial Board will hear the case. The Board’s decision is final.
An official, written notice warning the student that further violations of the policies and guidelines will result in more serious disciplinary sanctions.
Community service hours to the College or a community agency that is consistent with infraction committed.
An official, written notice that places the student on a probationary status with the College for a specific length of time.
Suspension From Residence
A specified amount of time where the student is unable to remain living within the Residence Halls. The student is not permitted in the vicinity of the residence halls during this period of time.
Dismissal From Residence
A permanent separation from the Residence Halls. The student will have no further connection to the Halls and is no longer present in or around the facilities.
An assessment of a monetary amount contributed to the College with the amount determined by the violation.
