Field of Interest

Carbohydrates and oligosaccharides in general are the structural determinants in a host of biological processes such as immune response, signal transduction,  microbial infection and toxicity.  Undergraduate students who undertake this type of research will acquire the practical separation skills required of the modern synthetic organic chemist ( TLC, column chromatography, etc.),  in addition to the analytical skills ( NMR, IR, GC/MS, etc.), involved in structure elucidation.
