MA Education

The Master of Arts in Education at Felician College integrates the philosophies of curriculum development with an awareness of current, national, state and local trends. It will enable you to utilize effective instruction and a variety of teaching models for individuals as well as small and large groups. The master's program can be taken with or without teacher certification to meet the needs of:

  • Certified teachers looking to earn a master's degree and advance their career or
  • Students looking to enter the teaching profession by becoming certified to teach while also gaining the advantages of a master's degree

Core Curriculum

All students in the master's program will build the foundation for their program by taking the eight courses (21 credits) listed below:

  • ED 505 Educating All Populations: Collaborating with Home, School and Community
  • ED 530 Philosophy for Teachers as Leaders
  • ED 540 Curriculum Development for Teachers as Leaders
  • ED 560 Literacy for Diverse Populations
  • ED 570 Introduction to Research: Statistics as a Tool in Data Driven Decision-Making
  • ED 590 Teaching and Learning with Technology
  • ED 700 Research Methods in Education I (2 Credits)
  • ED 710 Research Methods in Education II (1 Credit)

The first 6 courses begin your program and the last two courses conclude your program and incorporate the creation of an action research project. 

Elementary Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities tracks

These tracks prepare you for advancement or entry into the field with a solid foundation, which balances skills and knowledge with compassion and emphasis on learner-centered education. The programs cover issues of importance and relevance for today's educators, such as changes in trends, practices, research, legislation, and policies, thereby giving you the knowledge and ability to lead and excel with an informed mind and an understanding heart.

Students Also Seeking Teacher Certification

Students enrolled in the master's programs that are not currently certified to teach may obtain teacher certification by completing an additional four credits in their chosen track. These four credits consist of two classes: Student Teaching ED 603 and ED 604.

The student teaching component consists of 15 consecutive weeks of full-time teaching, five days a week, in a school setting.
