Felician Students Get Hands-On Experience at Model U.N.
Ten Felician students attended the Harvard National Model United Nations recently held in Boston. The event brought together college students and faculty advisors from throughout the world and gave them the opportunity to experience the challenges of international negotiations.
Nine of the Felician students represented the country of Belarus and served on General Assembly committees, including Disarmament and International Security, Legal, Special Political and Decolonization, and Social Humanitarian and Cultural.
Two of the students also served on the World Health Organization committee, while one, Maria Lopez, was accepted to represent a member of Fidel Castro's cabinet in a simulation of the Cuban Missile Crisis. She is one of fifteen student delegates worldwide whose application to take part in the simulation was accepted.
"The Harvard National Model UN Conference was an amazing experience that really lent itself to our becoming more aware of the challenges that our generation will face," said student Paula Binsol. "The experience made all of us more determined to be a part of the change we wish to see in this world."
