What is the ESL Academic Bridge Program?

If you do not meet the English language proficiency requirements for a Felician University bachelor’s or master’s degree program, you may qualify for the ESL Academic Bridge Program. You will take ESL courses to prepare for the academic challenge of undergraduate or graduate study.

You must apply to both the ESL Academic Bridge Program and the academic program of your choice. If you are accepted, you are given conditional admission to a Felician undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Once you complete the ESL portion of your program, you may begin your bachelor’s or master’s degree. With permission, you may take college courses while pursuing English language study and the credits count toward your degree program.

Improving your English skills

Upon acceptance into the ESL Bridge Program, you will take a placement test to determine your level of English. Depending on placement, you are required to take six months to 14 months of English coursework. In order to begin the Felician degree program, you must successfully complete Level IV of the ESL program and pass an internal proficiency test.

The Bridge Program consists of four levels:

Level I (Basic)  •  Level II (Intermediate)  •  Level III (High Intermediate)  •  Level IV (Advanced)

You will focus on English grammar, speaking, listening, reading, writing, and pronunciation in each level. You will also explore American culture to acclimate yourself to the U.S. academic environment. In Levels III and IV, you will have the opportunity to explore additional topics in more depth through elective courses.
