The Bachelor’s to BSN Program is an accelerated full-time nursing program designed for working adults seeking a career change. The program is intended for working adults who have a bachelor or master’s degree and work experience in a discipline other than nursing. Students applying to the program are required to demonstrate the academic ability to successfully engage in an accelerated program of study.  Students can complete the six-semester accelerated nursing sequence in 18 months of concentrated full time study. 

Students needing prerequisite courses must satisfy those requirements prior to enrolling in the nursing sequence.  The program prepares the student to take the NCLEX-RN examination upon successful completion of the program.   A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is awarded upon the successful completion of the program.

Students who have been unsuccessful in another nursing program are ineligible to apply.

Admission Requirements

• A completed application.
• A resume including recent work experience in their field.
• Bachelor or Master’s degree awarded from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
• Submission of official academic transcripts from all institutions of higher education. 
• Demonstrated ability to successfully complete an accelerated course of nursing study and clinical practice full-time.
• B- or higher in all required prerequisite courses.
• Students must pass all sciences with a B- or better. Students may repeat one science grade for a grade less than a B- this repeat includes ALL institutions of higher education that the student has attended. All transcripts will be reviewed prior to admission, to determine science eligibility.
• 350 word essay describing their academic abilities.
• Personal interview may be required.

Degree Requirements   

• Successful completion of 75 pre-licensure credits
• Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 2.75 throughout the program.
• A grade of C+ or higher in all nursing courses. The course grade is comprised of academic course work, and a satisfactory in clinical practice.
• A grade of C or higher in core courses and C or higher in non-nursing courses.
• Degree requirements must be completed within 7 years from the start of the program. This time limit includes leaves-of-absence. Students who do not complete the program requirements within this time frame may be required to complete additional coursework.

• Students are required to successfully complete program requirements.
• Students maybe required to participate in remediation programs throughout the curriculum.
• Students are financially responsible for the cost of all computerized testing.
• Students are required to complete a departmental approved NCLEX Review Course following completion of their last semester.

Academic Policies

(Please refer to the Nursing Student Handbook for a list of Academic Policies)

• A grade of C+ or higher in all nursing courses. A student is only permitted 1 repetition of one nursing course for a grade less than a C+ or WD.
• A letter of program completion shall be sent to the New Jersey State Board of Nursing by the Associate Dean of the Program at the time the student has completed all program requirements and has submitted of having applied to the Board of Nursing to take the RN-NCLEX Examination. Graduates are strongly encouraged to sit for the State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse licensing examination (NCLEX) no later than 6 months after program completion. Graduates who opt to take the exam beyond this point need to contact the Division Dean who will recommend remediation activities prior to processing their NCLEX application.
• Students must maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA throughout the program. Students whose Cumulative GPA falls below 2.75 will be placed on academic probation for one semester. Failure to raise the cumulative GPA to a 2.75 by the end of that semester shall result in dismissal from the BSN Program without a chance of re-admission. Students dismissed from the program are counseled to enroll in another program at the college where they may be successful.
• Students must receive ongoing Health Clearance, and maintain Liability insurance and CPR certification in order to go into clinical practice.
• The letter to the Board of Nursing that the student has completed the program will be releases when all program requirements are met. The Program Associate Dean will send a letter to the State Board of Nursing verifying that the student has completed all program requirements.
• Students must maintain Health Clearance, Liability insurance and CPR certification in order to go into the clinical area.
• Adherence to a criminal history background check as required by a clinical agency. The agency reserves the right to exclude a student from their site. Such exclusion shall result in the student being dismissed from the nursing program.
• Proof of membership in the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) and New Jersey Nursing Student Association (NJNS).
• Standardized testing is used throughout the curriculum. Specifics in the use of standardized testing are contained within individualized course syllabi.

Departments in the School of Nursing follow the general College policies and regulations listed in this Catalog. However, as a professional program of study, nursing departments may establish academic policies and regulations consistent with professional standards of nursing education and practice. It is the responsibility of the student to know and comply with all academic policies and regulations of the College and the Department.

Departments in the School of Nursing reserve the right to change, modify or improve any program requirements or policies at its discretion without prior notice.

The Felician College Student Handbook contains important policies related to both the College and the Nursing Department Program. The Handbook is updated periodically. Students should have a current copy, including any department changes, for reference at all times.

The Nursing Student Handbook contains important policies related to the Nursing Program. Students are required to sign a statement that they are responsible for reading the Handbook and are accountable for adhering to the Nursing Student Handbook policies and guidelines herein.

What can I do with a degree in Nursing?

A college degree in nursing prepares you for the role of generalist nurse.

As stated by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2008) a “nursing generalist practice includes both direct and indirect care for patients, which includes individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. The fundamental aspects of generalist nursing practice are: direct care of the sick in and across all environments, health promotion and clinical prevention, and population based health care. A defining feature of professional nursing practice is the focus on health promotion and risk reduction. This will enable graduates to practice within complex healthcare systems and assume the role of provider of care; designer/manager/coordinator of care; and member of a profession.”
